Boy what a horrible year it has been. Fires blocking out the sun, a pandemic and just about the most stressful election ever. Well in the smoldering mess that was 2020, a bright shiny light has started to come through. That’s right, tiki bars are reopening! The second I heard that Pagan Idol was reopening I knew I had to jump on the chance to get a reservation. Well good news, I was able to visit last Friday!

Pagan Idol is a part of the Future Bars group who also own Zombie Village and Devils Acre. A lot like Zombie Village, you can tell they have taken their time to remove you from San Francisco to a curated tropical paradise. Honestly my favorite addition to this place is the photogenic Puff Daddy 2. He has no problem swimming up to the glass for a quick photo shoot.

The drinks themselves, to be honest, are just alright. Not amazing, but not horrible. They appear to be lacking quality juice and the frozen drinks are missing a lot of flavor. With that said, don’t let that stop you from trying your favorite drink here. The rum selection is nice and the staff have the knowledge to help you try something new and maybe outside your norm.

Ultimately, this is not the best tiki bar in San Francisco and it may be safe to say that it isn’t even the best one owned by Future Bars. The drinks lacking in quality does make it hard to swallow the bay area tiki drink price but if you have some extra time and money, it’s worth a visit for a drink or two.

Please note that this is based on my experience just before they closed for Covid and 2 weeks after they reopened. Quality may have been lacking due to these circumstances.
